Township Newsletter: How Township Works

Happy June, Turtle River residents, and welcome to our newsletter!

This month we feature supervisor Jerry to discuss the general workings and purpose of local township government:

---

Have you ever wondered why we have a township board?  It’s local government at a level that allows every member of our community to be involved.  The board itself is comprised of five elected individuals who actually live right here in Turtle River Township.  We are your neighbors, and happy to be here!  We are equally as interested in good roads, effective snow plowing, and quality fire service as many of you reading this.  We drive those same roads and are affected by those same taxes that we also pay.

The wonderful thing about township government is that this means the choices being made are by local residents who live here. This is intended to be a better representation of our community interests than a larger governing body would be capable of doing, and we feel it is successful.  It’s an important role that allows us as a township to determine our own path.

Interested in getting involved?  Simply contact one of your township supervisors (contact information available on Turtle River Township website) or attend one of our town board meetings, held the second Thursday of each month at 7pm.  We  want to consider all opinions in our decision-making process, so we'd love to hear from you!
