County 20 update 10/28/2022
The second phase of the project has progressed quickly. In the section from Hazelwood to the pit entrance, just east of Tall Pines, the excavation and embankment has been completed. The contractor has placed the ground pavement as the start of the gravel driving surface. They will be placing four more inches of gravel surfacing in the near future. They will also be finishing up installing culverts under the road, entrance culverts and spreading topsoil.
The surcharge in phase 1 is still being worked on. Some additional material was placed this week and we still need to place two more lifts – two more feet when conditions will allow it.
With finishing phase 2 and the weather still being favorable, the contractor has decided to continue working on the next section. Next week they will be removing the bituminous surface from the pit entrance east to Pincherry. There is significant muck excavation/granular backfill work to be done in the swamp area before Pincherry. They expect this work to take a few weeks and plan to be wrapped up before Thanksgiving.
